Why I'm a Habitual Reader:
As a habitual reader, like a smoking addict, I place the next book I have selected on my desk as I am completing my current read. There will be no interruption between books if I can help it! I never leave the house without my current read and the book sits in the passenger seat of my car, in case I have a long stop somewhere or my car breaks down (hasn’t happened yet!). Book selection for vacation travel requires a consultation with my husband so there is no over lap of titles selected and enough books to cover air flights and hotel stays. My favorite current authors, such as Alan First, Daniel Silva, Henning Mankell, Arturo Perez-Reverte, Ian Rankin, Val McDermid, Robert Wilson and Michael Connelly get put on top of the “To Be Read (TBR) Pile”. But recently I have looked back at some of the “goodies but oldies” of the Golden Age of Mysteries. I just started reading a Nicholas Freeling “Lady Macbeth” and plan to read other authors that I missed like Gladys Mitchell and Mary Roberts Rinehart. As an avid bird watcher, I also read books about birds and experiences of bird watchers, especially in foreign countries that we plan to visit as well as travel books. Travel provides new avenues of reading possibilities and I am quickly on that avenue.
