Why I'm a Habitual Reader:

I am a constant reader. I belong to several on-line book groups and am always making a list of books to be read (not to mention the stacks of books littering my bedroom which are waiting to be read!). I love to read book blogs, book reviews and browse book related sites. Besides my love of reading, I have been writing since I was a child. Some of my short fiction and nonfiction has been published on a weekly ezine (The Piker Press). For me, books and words are a great joy.

My List of Ten: Top Ten Books of All Time

1. The Pillars of the Earth
Author: Ken Follett
A sprawling historical saga that captured me from page one.

2. The Book Thief
Author: Markus Zusak
A brilliant piece of fiction set just outside of Munich during WWII and narrated by Death. Creative and moving, this one is destined to become a classic.

3. Suite Francaise
Author: Irene Nemirovsky
Published 64 years after the author's death in a German concentration camp, this novel is actually a work in progress. Deeply touching, it is almost biographical in nature. A must read.

4. Half of A Yellow Sun
Author: Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie
Huge in scope, this novel examines the impact of the Biafran Civil War on three distinct characters. Raw and honest, it sticks with the reader long after the final page has been turned.

5. The Stand
Author: Stephen King
A classic King novel, The Stand is not just a horror book. Once started, it is impossible to put down.

6. The Grapes of Wrath
Author: John Steinbeck
This book has deserved its accolades as The Great American Novel. Rich language, searingly honest characters and an ending that shocks...it is a classic which must be read.

7. Winterdance
Author: Gary Paulsen
A nonfiction account of training and running the Iditarod. Hilarious, touching, beautifully written.

8. The Hotel New Hampshire
Author: John Irving
Filled with bizarre and memorable characters, this novel takes the reader on a wild and comic ride. One of Irving's bests.

9. Lonesome Dove
Author: Larry McMurtry
The third book in a four book series, Lonesome Dove is perhaps the best known McMurtry book. This entire series is wonderful. You will fall in love with the characters and wish it never ended.

10. War and Peace
Author: Leo Tolstoy
A sweeping historical novel, meticulously crafted. The kind of book you will want to keep on your shelf and read more than once.
