Why I'm a Habitual Reader:
I LOVE words! People say you can tell where a person's heart is by where their money goes. I will buy a book over food if it comes down to it (fortunately, it's never had to come down to that, thank goodness for libraries!). I tell people I'm a connoisseur of words. I drink books. It's the most exciting thing for me. Granted, I'm a writer and there are times when I can't read because I'm working on my own books.
That's when books become a reward. I had a book that was about 600 pages I'd bought, and my reward was I would get to read the book once my writing was finished. I love books that uplift and give hope. I love books that teach. I can not NOT read. It's just a blessing to be able to use words to create your own movie in the mind.
My List of Ten: Top Ten Books That Will Make You Go--Hmmm...
1. Song of Solomon
Author: Toni Morrison
I'm still trying to work out how the book ended.
2. The Greatest Salesman in the World
Author: Og Mandino
It's not at all what you think (about being some kind of salesperson).
3. The Greatest Miracle in the World
Author: Og Mandino
It will make you feel so wonderful about who you are and
why you're here on this earth.
4. The Autobiography of Miss Jane Pittman
Author: Ernest J. Gaines
It shows how fiction can be so real you'll believe it has to be true.
5. Promises Beyond Jordan
Author: Vanessa Davis Griggs
This was the book I wanted to read and ultimately the one I wanted to write.
6. The Lovely Bones
Author: Alice Sebold
I loved the voice and how the story was told.
7. Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil
Author: John Berendt
The Southern tone just resonated throughout as you read. I was there.
8. Threesome
Author: Brenda L. Thomas
The way the book opened up got me, and it's hard for a book to do that with
me.
9. Wings of Grace
Author: Vanessa Davis Griggs
There was a lot of research done on Biltmore Castle and Oheka Castle as well
as the 9/11 incident that was included in the book. There's also a wedding
scene where you get to "be there."
10. A Woman of Substance
Author: Barbara Taylor Bradford
I read this book before she was a well-known author but that book stuck with
me as though I really knew those people. It caused me to want to write like
that to affect others that way.
