Why I'm a Habitual Reader:
I always have a book "on the go" in every room in the house. I can't even move a book from one shelf to another, without reading some of it, or all of it. Of course, as an author I always carry a notebook and can be caught jotting down a paragraph or two when I don't have my nose buried in someone else's novel.
My List of Ten: Books to take to a Desert Island
1. Flowers in the Storm
Author: Laura Kinsale
A very powerful and involving story, with characters that you can never forget.
Great company for a lonely person.
2. These Old Shades
Author: Georgette Heyer
I love anything Regency, but this was the first one of hers I read in my youth.
My dad loved her works and we fought over who would get to read them first
when we brought them home from the library. So this one has many happy memories.
3. Lord of the Rings
Author: J.R.R. Tolkien
Plenty of food for the imagination, and the kind of book that would transport
you to another world so you could forget your loneliness. A book you could
read over and over again.
4. Outlander
Author: Diane Gabledon
More history, fantasy. An engrossing tale.
5. Old Sarum
Author: Edward Rutherfurd
It encapsulates English history.
6. Noble House
Author: James Clavell
I like the power in this.
7. Angels and Demons
Author: Dan Brown
Fascinating, I love all the architectural stuff. It might help me build a shelter.
8. Pistols at Dawn
Author: Michele Ann Young
I wrote it. It is my first published book. I always get a surprise when I see
it on my shelf.
9. Wuthering Heights
Author: Emily Bronte
Timelessly grim and unbelievably fascinating, not to mention sad.
10. Tale of Two Cities
Author: Charles Dickens
Actually, any of his books or all of them.
