Why I'm a Habitual Reader:
As a writer, reading and writing is my livelihood. I started out with my mother reading Perry Mason to me at bedtime. She claims that she has read every mystery in the mystery section at the library. From there, I grew into the Bobsey Twin mysteries, on to Nancy Drew and the Hardy Boys, to Agatha Christie to Perry Mason to writing my own mysteries.
My List of Ten: Top Ten Mysteries by Lauren Carr
1. A Reunion to Die For
Author: Lauren Carr
I admit, this is favoritism. I wrote it and it will be released in June 2007.
My latest book is always my favorite.
2. A Small Case of Murder
Author: Lauren Carr
This is my first book.
3. The Purlion Letter
Author: Edgar Allen Poe
This is supposed to be the first mystery written that introduces a detective.
Some say that Sherlock Holmes was based on Poe's detective.
4. The Mysterious Affair at Syles
Author: Agatha Christie
This was Agatha Christie's first book. She wrote it on a dare and has been
quoted as saying that even after having it published, she did not envision
writing anymore books.
5. The Hound of the Baskervilles
Author: Sir Authur Conan Doyle
I read this once and loved it. I love Sherlock Holmes' style. I need to find
time to read it again.
6. Mousetrap
Author: Agatha Christie
I have read this book numerous times. It is a famous play written by Agatha
Christie. I read that Agatha Christie has said that there is a mistake in this
book as far as the construction of the mystery. That's why I have read it so
many times. I haven't found it yet.
7. The Quincunx
Author: Charles Palliser
This book is a complex that takes place over many generations. My husband loves
this book.
8. Perry Mason
Author: Earle Stanley Gardner
Any Perry Mason book will do.
9. Witness for the Prosecution
Author: Agatha Christie
This is one of my favorite Christie's.
10. The Hardy Boys
The Hardy Boys or Nancy Drew bring back found memories of igniting my imagination
for mysteries.
