Why I'm a Habitual Reader:
I started reading comic books very young and eventually grew out of those into such classics as Robinson Crusoe and Moby Dick. The imagery fascinated me then and still does.
Once I began reading Tom Clancy's works, I was hooked. I also became convinced that I could write as good as he does, and apparently (judging from the reviews of Blackgloom) I'm not too far off base. One Hollywood producer just dubbed my medieval fantasy, "BRAVEHEART Meets THE LORD OF THE RINGS." High praise, yes, and hopefully I can live up to it.
Thanks for reading this. I'm happy to be among so many other "Habbers".
My List of Ten: War Books
1. Red Storm Rising
Author: Tom Clancy
Clancy's best effort...
2. All Quiet on the Western Front
Author: Eric Maria Remarque
The best frontline war story ever written...
3. The Hunt for Red October
Author: Tom Clancy
Gotta love those submariners for having the guts to go down in those things.
4. The Sum of All Fears
Author: Tom Clancy
This one scared the bajeebers out of me.
5. The Art of War
Author: Sun-Tzu
A basic primer for all things war related
6. A Rumor of War
Author: Phil Caputo
War at its most basic level
7. War and Peace
Author: Leo Tolstoy
I didn't read this until I actually had to go to Russia. The book opened my
eyes to the soul of the Russian people.
8. The War of the Worlds
Author: H.G. Wells
Okay, so this is not a real war story, but hey, it was very entertaining.
9. Flags of Our Fathers
Author: James Bradley
Talk about gut wrenching material!
10. The Blackgloom Bounty
Author: Jon Baxley
Okay, I had to throw this in. It IS a war story, but on a very small scale
compared to these other books. I hope you'll read it.
