Why I'm a Habitual Reader:
Up through the 6th grade, I hardly read any books at all. That all changed when the school librarian gave me a book to read: Call of the Wild by Jack London. A year later, my sister turned me on to science fiction. Throughout high school, my passion for science fiction grew exponentially -- culminating in my desire to publish my own book. I finally achieved that goal in 1999, when I published my own science fiction title, Secret of the Snow Leopard. Meanwhile, the magic of Jack London continued to work on me, and ultimately led to a career in wildlife biology. I now lead natural history and bird watching tours all over the world. My latest book, to be published in 2007, is called Birding for Everyone. This book explores the relative absence of minorities among bird watchers and explains why this is important from an environmental perspective. I own hundreds of science fiction and wildlife reference books and consider reading the greatest gift in life one can receive. Hopefully, everyone has a person in her life like my 6th grade teacher.
