Why I'm a Habitual Reader:
It's my sister's fault. She read fascinating novels to me before I was old enough to go to school and learn to read myself. She keeps telling me about another great book I don't want to miss. Now I cannot even think of going to sleep each night without reading good fiction first.
My List of Ten: Unforgettable Books
1. My Half of the Sky
Author: Jana McBurney-Lin
It made me feel at home in China, a place I've never been.
2. Kite Runner
Author: Khaled Hosseini
Gripping/heartwrenching in its humanity.
3. Ordinary Wolves
Author: Seth Kantner
His beautiful use of language carried me into his world, making me part of
it.
4. Absaroka
Author: Joan Bochmann
A well-told story with well-drawn characters took me into a familiar life and
time in a drama I couldn't put down.
5. Eating Heaven
Author: Jennie Shortridge
Funny and sad and real and delightful.
6. A Prayer for Owen Meany
Author: John Irving
Poignant, a book I'll never forget.
7. A Clearing in the Wild
Author: Jane Kirkpatrick
Historical fiction; gripping and true to life. I traveled and travailed with
the young protagonist.
8. An Inmate's Daughter
Author: Jan Walker
With an economy of words, the author put me in the very heart and life of a
young girl with a secret she's not allowed to tell.
9. The Poisonwood Bible
Author: Barbara Kingsolver
And every other book she's written. A master at bringing life in other cultures
and important issues to life.
10. Useful Girl
Author: Marcus Stevens
It blends two time periods and two cultures in an authentic and suspenseful
story that makes one think.
