Janet Lane Name: Janet Lane
City & State: Littleton, Colorado
Vocation / Avocation: author, resort condo management, ADL marketing

Why I'm a Habitual Reader:

I've had my nose stuck in a book since Whitman's Tiny Tales! I love to escape to worlds of adventure, exciting places, fascinating people. When I discovered the thrill of writing as well as reading, I became an even more enthusiastic reader. I love books that make me think, laugh, learn, cry -- books that spark my imagination. My Top Ten list of books transported me, as if by magic, to another world. I hope you enjoy them!

My List of Ten: Books That Swept Me Away

1. Centennial
Author: James Michener
It brought history alive and made me appreciate Colorado even more.

2. Tabor's Trinket
Author: Janet Lane
This is my debut novel. I fell in love with fifteenth century Gypsies. It was a joy to trace the trials and challenges of my characters' love and their personal growth over the course of the novel and live, for a time, in the world of medieval England.

3. Heart Mate
Author: Robin D. Owens
Owens creates the marvelous world of Celta, bold characters with "flair" and an endearing fam-cat who will steal your heart and make you wish the book could go on and on.

4. The Poisonwood Bible
Author: Barbara Kingsolver
Incredibly strong characterization and vivid scene setting. Kingsolver made me grimace, sigh, care, cry.

5. Close Range, Wyoming Stories
Author: Annie Proulx
Much more than just Brokeback Mountain. Annie has a way of painting characters with swift, aggressive strokes. With a simple gesture she can convey what it takes others pages and pages to accomplish. This will take you to Wyoming. I so admire her.

6. Tai-Pan
Author: James Clavell
Great characters, settings, history, culture. I was transported and sad it had to end.

7. Shogun
Author: ames Clavell
Again, Clavell draws memorable characters and dazzling details that linger for years.

8. The DaVinci Code
Author: Dan Brown
I liked it for the thought-provoking research, the swirling theories, and marvelous scene-setting.

9. The Trees/Fields/Town
Author: Conrad Richter
This "Awakening Land" trilogy swept me away to the pioneers' world of danger, courage, survival and ultimately, their growth and insights.

10. The Bestseller
Author: Olivia Goldsmith
Goldsmith was so talented! This book romps through the crazy world of publishing. Who could ever forget Pam Mantis?
