Why I'm a Habitual Reader:

I would simply curl up and die if I couldn't read. It's impossible not to read - in fact, reading a store front was the cause of my car wreck last year!

My List of Ten: Top Ten to Read and Reread

1. Watership Down
Author: Richard Adams
One of the most engrossing and fascinating books I've ever read. I totally forgot it was about rabbits--the characterization was so great. And it was a wonderful story.

2. The Time Traveler's Wife
Author: Audrey Niffenegger
It has one of the most convoluted, and intriguing, story lines I've ever read. I'm still trying to figure out how the author kept track of things as she wrote it.

3. Outlander
Author: Diana Gabaldon
Some writers have amazing breadth to their writing; some have wonderful depth. Gabaldon has both, and I'm in awe of her ability.

4. The Mists of Avalon
Author: Marion Z. Bradley
A magnificent retelling of myth, breathing love and life into characters, with a wonderful emphasis on the feminine divine.

5. Things Fall Apart
Author: Chinua Achebe
An evocative parallel between a man's personal struggle and society's struggle to be true to themselves.

6. The Alchemist
Author: Paulo Coelho
A deceptively simple tale about a man who travels, labors, and learns.

7. Middlesex
Author: Jeffrey Eugenides
A most intriguing and unusual story. The medical information is skillfully interlaced with the story of how an unusual medical condition affects a person's life.

8. The Lovely Bones
Author: Alice Sebold
Another intriguing and unusual story, this time from the point of view of a murdered child.

9. The Secret Life of Bees
Author: Sue Monk Kidd
A search for identity and meaning expertly woven with bee-keeping and honey.

10. Jenny's Legacy
Author: Cassandra Barnes
This is the book I wrote. And even though I wrote it, I find something new in it each time I look at it. My subconscious put in things I wasn't aware of!
