Why I'm a Habitual Reader:

I've been a writer all my life. Even as a kid I was writing and illustrating my own stories about my cat. It was only later in life that I clued in to the wonderful world of other people's stories. What can I say? I'm a late bloomer. But I'm trying to make up for lost time.

My List of Ten: Top Ten Books/Authors That Made Me A Fan Of Romantic Suspense (In no particular order)

1. All The Queen's Men
Author: Linda Howard
Any Linda Howard book, really. I loved so much about this book though. A complex, multi-layered villain, poignant opening chapters, an Alpha hero to die for. What's not to like?
I love the way Linda Howard blends humor and suspense.

2. Perfect
Author: Judith McNaught
Okay, maybe it isn't a Romantic Suspense in the truest sense but this book stayed with me. Emotions that jumped off the page and plenty of twists to keep me up late at night.

3. Heartbreaker
Author: Karen Robards
Quite simply, I couldn't put it down. Same with Walking After Midnight and many of her other books.

4. Over The Edge
Author: Suzanne Brockmann
I've loved most every Suzanne Brockmann book I've ever picked up, but this was my favorite I believe. Tension, action, emotion and great romance... I honestly was on the edge of my seat wondering, "How is she going to get them out of this mess!?"

5. French Silk
Author: Sandra Brown
Steamy and full of mystery, just like the setting... New Orleans. This was the first Sandra Brown I ever read and it sent me scurrying to find more!

6. Love and Smoke
Author: Jennifer Blake
Jennifer Blake wrote several wonderful romantic suspenses in the early 90's and I loved them all. This is just the title that came to mind first! As a bonus, she's a (almost) neighbor of mine, just down the road a piece in Louisiana!

7. The Perfect Husband
Author: Lisa Gardner
Grisly and tense. I didn't agree with the way the author wrapped up one storyline (no spoilers here!) but the book was breathtaking and chilling.

8. Anything by
Author: Susan Elizabeth Phillips
Okay... so she isn't romantic suspense, but I love her books anyway and had to give her a mention! When I need to take a break from suspense, I look for a SEP book!

9. Anything by
Author: Linda Castillo
Not only is she a terrific author who creates wonderfully tortured heroes, but she's been my mentor and friend for a number of years. Thanks for everything, Linda! Also she told me about...

10. Long After Midnight
Author: Iris Johansen
Another taut thriller. Great reading!
